The City of Phoenix Historic Preservation Office published a pamphlet a while back titled Mid-Century Marvels: Modern Architecture in Phoenix that lists 25 post-war buildings that represent the city’s architectural heritage.  (Here is an online pdf version.)  A few months ago I set out to take my own photographs of some of these buildings.  Here are a few of them.

The Mesa Arts Center is a performing arts, visual arts, and arts education facility located in Mesa, AZ.   It has 4 theaters, 5 galleries, 14 classrooms, and outdoor gardens.   Architecturally it features jagged angles, canted walls, sloping roofs, glass walls, and regional colors and materials.  It is a very photogenic palce.

Sony Alpha 100 DSLR

Sony Alpha 100 DSLR

A quick post on the camera I am using for most of the photos on this blog.  It is the Sony Alpha 100 Digital SLR.  They have come out with the 200 series since I bought this, but I have not had the need to upgrade just yet.

One of the main reasons I decided on this camera, aside from the good reviews, was that it was compatible with the lenses from my Minolta film SLR camera.  In addition the Super SteadyShot image stabilization is a great feature.

The picture quality is excellent and it is a great camera overall.  No complaints here.

I have taken one Photoshop class and do not use it too much on my photography other than to fix a few distortions or remove red eye.  But there is so much you can do with it and I like playing around in it.  Learning more about Photoshop and practicing on my photos is definately on my to-do list.

I stumbled upon this great site with Photoshop tutorials.   The one I am starting out with is 50 Great Photoshop Tutorials for Clever Beginners. It gives step-by-step tutorials on 50 different things you can do with Photoshop.  I will post the results as soon as I get some results that I am happy with.

Downtown Phoenix, AZ

The first photo post.  This was taken about a year ago in downtown Phoenix, AZ.

Here goes nothing… Welcome to my photo blog.  The intention is just to post my photography for all the world to see and critique.  I am still working on the layout and theme of the blog itself.  I hope to start getting photos up soon.
