Photo of a painting at the Phoenix Art Museum
Phoenix Art
f/4.5 – 1/20 sec – ISO 200 – Focal Length 50 mm

I made a photography mistake with this image.  It is a rather large painting at the Phoenix Art Museum because I loved the colors.  But I did not make note of the artist or the painting’s title.  It is also not listed or shown in the museum’s online galleries.  So if anyone knows the who the artist is or the title of the painting please let me know.

Update:  Thanks to Joshua I have more details on this painting. He was able to find the artist.

Title: Marechal Floriano Peixoto
Medium: oil on canvas
Date: 2008

    Hi,

This looks like a piece by Kehinde Wiley. Your description along with the components in the image make me think of no other artist. His work is distinguished by its very large scale, photorealism, fairly young urban African-American male subject matter, and the background, which is typically vibrant and floral (though usually in the French style). I’ve never seen this piece on his website, but I’m quite certain that the painting credit goes to Kehinde Wiley.

    Joshua,

Thank you so much for finding out the details of this painting. I was at the museum again last week and this is by far one of my favorite pieces. Thanks again!
