Photo of the hiking trail up Black Mountain in ArizonaThe Desert Foothills Land Trust in Arizona has a mission “…to protect, preserve, and steward sensitive land and species for the survival of the fragile Sonoran Desert.”  The 600+ acres in the preserve are in the desert foothills north of Phoenix mostly int he Cave Creek area.  Part of that land is Black Mountain just to the north of the Carefree Highway and south of Cave Creek, AZ.  While the mountain has large homes built on its slopes in some places, much of it is being preserved for the plants and animals that live int he area as well as for future generations.

To help raise awareness and inspire continued protection of the mountain the Desert Foothills land Trust is sponsoring 2011 Black Mountain Photo Contest.

You have until October 24, 2011 to submit your photographs of Black Mountain.  A panel of judges will pick the best images based on technical and artistic merit. Winning entries will be those whose overall impact best captures Black Mountain as a natural resource to be protected and preserved.  The winning entries will make up the 2012 Black Mountain calendar.
